BIG PICTURE ROCHESTER STAGES EXHIBITIONS TO CELEBRATE THE INSTALLATION OF PHOTOMOSAIC Rochester, New York, September 19, 2006 -- Big Picture Rochester (BPR) will mount two exhibitions, outdoor and indoor, to celebrate the installation of The Big Picture Photomosaic on the north wall of the State University of New York College at Brockport MetroCenter campus (SUNY Brockport). The celebration will run for two days, Friday, September 29 from 4-6 pm and Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 2-4 pm. The event will be held at the SUNY Brockport MetroCenter, 55 St. Paul Street, downtown in the St. Paul Quarter.
The outdoor exhibition begins with an official ceremony focused on the photomosaic at 4:30 pm on Friday in the MetroCenter parking lot. Planned speakers include officials from SUNY Brockport, the City of Rochester, the Arts & Cultural Council of Greater Rochester (A&CC), Rochester Downtown Development Corporation (RDDC), and BPR’s director and founder, Kenichiro Sato, whose vision for the photomosaic included providing inspiration for the community of Greater Rochester.
“My idea in making this photomosaic was that we are all part of Rochester’s big picture,” said Sato, who is from Sendai, Japan. “I wanted The Big Picture to reveal a moment of beauty in Rochester.”
The photomosaic measures 40’ (W) x 60” (H). It is composed of 12,800 small pictures submitted by individuals and from Rochester archives. The overarching image – The Big Picture – is the winning image chosen by jury from entrants to The Big Picture Photo Contest which ran from June through August of this year.
The indoor exhibition features 20 selected photographs from the contest and a projected presentation. It is open Friday from 4-6 pm on the first floor of the MetroCenter building, and Saturday from 2-4 pm.
The outdoor celebration continues on Saturday from 2-4, and includes viewing of the photomosaic, live music by Dubblestuff from Rochester’s Eastman School, lively conversation and information. It will coincide with the St. Paul Quarter Open House from 2-5.The BPR event is free and open to the public. For more information on The Big Picture, visit www.BigPictureRochester.com
