Charles Settlement House Celebrates 90 Years of Service to Northwest Rochester PDF Print E-mail

Rochester, NY – Charles Settlement House is marking its 90th anniversary with a luncheon honoring five people for their leadership and service to the community.  The 90th Anniversary & Awards Luncheon will be held on Thursday, November 1 at the Rochester Hyatt Regency.


Charles Settlement House provides a variety of human services for residents of all ages in Northwest Rochester, including pre-school, youth development, family and emergency services, a senior center, and neighborhood capacity building.

The honorees include:

  • Robert Stevenson, retiring Rochester City Councilman, for being a champion of Northwest Rochester.
  • Dr. Frederick C. Jefferson,  University of Rochester, for community leadership in the United Way, settlement houses and other human service organizations.
  • Marion Walker, president of JOSANA (Jay Orchard Street Area Neighborhood Association), for neighborhood leadership.
  • Dr. Mary Bush, Nazareth College, for over 50 years of volunteer service at Charles Settlement House.
  • Roseann Lackey, coordinator of the Northwest Senior Center, as employee of the year.
  • Joseph Pratt, an 8th grader whose photo is the 40 by 60 foot photo mosaic (Big Picture Rochester contest) at the SUNY Brockport Metro Center.  That picture is also the theme of the luncheon.

Mayor Robert Duffy will be the guest speaker.  Alumni of Charles Settlement House will attend, along with many neighborhood residents, program participants, community leaders, board members and public officials.  The luncheon will be held on Thursday, November 1 from 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Rochester Hyatt Regency.
